Good Friday commemorates the day that Jesus Christ died on the cross, remembered in many cultures with the Passion Play. Good Friday remembers the crucifixion and death of Jesus on the cross which opened the door for the resurrection of Christ and joy of Easter Sunday.
There are those of the opinion that focusing on Good Friday and the crucifixion obscures the real message of Easter, which is the message of hope and redemption through Jesus Christ. Without the death, however, there could have been no resurrection. After the somber and dark observances of Good Friday come the light and joyous celebrations of Easter Sunday.
Jesus died on Good Friday, but he conquered death and arose on Easter Morning, creating a pathway for those who placed their faith in Him to live with Him in heaven forever.
Churches and congregations observe Good Friday with somber prayer and bowed heads, in remembrance of Christ's suffering on the cross to pay for their sins.
Christians around the world observe Good Friday with various traditions and prayer.
