Congress not impressed, says more needs to be done
The Congress on Thursday said the party was not satisfied with the desilting work done by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation until now.
Mumbai Congress president Kripashankar Singh on Thursday said, “The BMC’s claims of completing 95 per cent nullah cleaning work is incorrect.”
Congress representatives had visited nullah cleaning spots across Mumbai, and there is much work yet to be done, said Singh. He also suggested that the funds which the BMC has earmarked for emergency measures during monsoon should be increased from Rs 25 crore to Rs 100 crore.
He expressed concern over the inadequate measures to prevent malaria in the city. Over the past few months, 3,000 cases of malaria have been recorded, according to a report by KEM Hospital, said Singh. The standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale has said that the committee will ask the Municipal Commissioner’s report on nullah desilting to be submitted to them. Later, the committee will ask the vigilance department of the BMC to cross check all the reports. “Only after that, payments for the desilting work will be released to the contractors, said Shewale.
