The wife of a teacher in Malaysia, who said reading and having sex every night kept him energetic during the day, has defended her husband's comments.

Alias Ismail, a Bahasa Malaysia teacher at SMK Menerong had made the controversial statement while receiving state-initiated Tokoh Nilam award for being an ourstanding teacher.


Now, his wife Rosmawati Abdullah has come forward to support him.

"He was just being honest. Through reading and having a cordial relationship, we managed to raise our children to be caring and disciplined. What's wrong if my husband shares his formula with others?," the Star Online quoted her, as saying.

The 41-year-old housewife said those who criticized her husband came from "old school of thought".

She added: "He is being honest about sex because he is concerned that the social ills among students are quite high. It's important not to have illicit sex. People should scrap the mentality that sex education is taboo."
